Don Hilario Coffee

This coffee is grown 4,000 feet above sea level, in volcanic soil of the Apaneca Llamatepec mountain chain of El Salvador. Only the ripest cherries are picked and then sun dried and processed in spring water, yielding a coffee that is smooth, rich and flavorful, with hints of vanilla.

Over 200 years ago the Bourbon Arabica bean was planted in the rich, volcanic mountains of the Santa Ana region of western El Salvador. Around 1876 Don Hilario Menendez began harvesting this sought after single-bean coffee. It became the exclusive botanical variety of coffee tree growing on the Don Hilario Estate.

Today his grandson, Gerardo Menendez, carries on the tradition of Don Hilario’s labor of love by continuing to hand-pick and select only the best cherries on the family plantation. This time honored procedure results in one of the most highly rated coffee beans in the world.
